Registered Agent Requirements Under Kentucky Law
A transparent $99/year for registered agent representation in Kentucky. Address used on filings, same-day legal mail scanning, and compliance reminders are part of the rate.
Every LLC and corporation filed with the Kentucky Secretary of State must name a registered agent, and the rulebook for the role is KRS 14A.4-010. This page covers what the statute demands, who qualifies, and how Kentucky Registered Agent.co fills the seat for $99 per year.
Defining the Registered Agent
A registered agent is the person or entity formally designated to receive legal papers and government correspondence on behalf of your business. When someone sues your company, the court delivers the summons to your registered agent. When the Secretary of State sends compliance notices, annual report reminders, or tax-related mail, those go to your agent as well.
The registered agent address is listed in public state records. That is one reason many business owners prefer a professional service rather than using a personal address.
What KRS 14A.4-010 Requires
The statute is specific on four points:
- Eligible agents. Either an individual residing in Kentucky whose business address is identical with the registered office, or an entity, domestic or foreign, qualified to transact business in Kentucky under the same address condition. Individual agents must be residents and at least 18.
- The registered office. Your entity maintains a registered office in Kentucky continuously. It can double as any of the entity's own places of business, but it must be a real street address. PO boxes do not qualify.
- The address match. The agent's business address and the registered office must be identical. One address, listed once, doing both jobs.
- Consent. Nobody becomes an agent by surprise. The agent signs the appointing document or delivers a written acceptance.
Layered on top is the practical rule: the agent must be present at that office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, to accept documents in person.
